CRAIG NICOL
EDITOR AND DIRECTOR
Craig was born in Toowoomba to Scottish parents who emigrated to Australia in the 70s. The family later moved to Gympie, then Rockhampton and Brisbane, where he attended Brisbane Boys Grammar School.
Craig graduated from Griffith University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws with Honours. The University’s advanced family law course and his time as a volunteer at the Caxton Legal Centre, giving free legal advice to the community, were the catalyst for his choosing family law as his future profession.
He was articled to Gold Coast law firm Attwood Marshall and admitted to practice in 2003, working as a family lawyer there until 2005 when he joined Small Myers Hughes at Southport. He is now a partner there.
Craig was a volunteer at the Gold Coast Community Legal Service, giving free legal advice to the community.
His talents extend to being a volunteer broadcaster at Radio 4EB in Brisbane from 2000 to 2001 for the National Indigenous Radio Service broadcast of “Undercurrents”, canvassing alternate current affairs.
Craig also co-wrote two plays which were finalists in Underground Productions’ Short Play Competition in 2003 and 2004, the latter winning the “People’s Choice Award”.
In 2015 Craig was accredited by the Queensland Law Society as a specialist in family law. The Society also awarded Craig the program’s Highest Achiever as “a recognition of his true level of expertise in this area”.
Co-editor since the Book’s launch in 2009, Craig took over the reins as editor in 2021.
